Judicial Analytics for Predicting Judgments and Informing Policy Making
The latest advancements in NLP and Machine Learning can equip us with tools that would help unravel the patterns used in decision making in the judicial system. In a first of its kind project in the Indian context, we want to develop tech that can predict court judgments from facts of the case. The spirit of the project is academic and to encourage further research and extend the use of text analytics in the context of other courts and their corresponding judgments.
The data would include text files of court judgments, along with metadata of the court. The judgments typically contain information like facts and details of the case, information about the judge who tried the case and whether the case was in the favor of the litigant or not.
The objective of the project is to analyze facts of the case (in textual format) to predict the judgment.
